Glenview, IL – Chicago Oriental Rug Cleaning is encouraging homeowners across Chicago and the North Shore to have their Oriental and area rugs professionally cleaned in October, ahead of the winter season. The Glenview-based company highlights the importance of removing accumulated dirt and grit before cold weather brings road salt, slush, and moisture into homes, especially through busy entryways and hallways.
During Chicago winters, salt and slush carried indoors on shoes can settle into rugs near entrances. Over time, embedded grit can wear down fibers, while salt residue may affect the texture and appearance of wool rugs. Hallway runners are particularly vulnerable because frequent foot traffic concentrates dirt and wear in a narrow area. Chicago Oriental Rug Cleaning recommends professional cleaning for frequently used runners every 12 to 18 months, depending on their condition and use, to help remove soil before it contributes to further wear.
A recent cleaning project in Glencoe, Illinois, illustrates the importance of professional care for heavily used hallway runners. On September 27, 2026, Chicago Oriental Rug Cleaning cleaned a 2.5-by-10-foot wool runner for $180, or $7.20 per square foot, with pickup and delivery included at no additional charge. The rug was taken to the company’s Glenview facility, where it could be thoroughly cleaned and rinsed without exposing the homeowner’s hardwood floors to excess moisture.
The Glencoe runner rug cleaning process began with an inspection of the rug’s fibers, dyes, edges, and foundation, followed by the removal of embedded dust. The runner then underwent a full-immersion hand wash using a wool-safe, pH-balanced solution. Centrifuge pre-drying, controlled flat drying, and final grooming completed the process before the rug was returned to the homeowner. This method helped remove dirt from deep within the rug rather than cleaning only its surface.
“Runners get less attention than they deserve. People clean the big living-room rug and forget the hallway runner, even though it takes far more foot traffic. Getting rugs cleaned in October means they start winter clean instead of carrying a summer’s worth of grit into salt-and-slush season,” said Arvy T., Founder and Owner.
In addition to professional cleaning, Chicago Oriental Rug Cleaning recommends regular care to limit dirt buildup during the colder months. Weekly vacuuming helps remove loose grit, while doormats near entrances reduce the amount of debris carried indoors. Non-slip rug pads and periodic rotation can help distribute wear. Spills should be blotted with cool water rather than scrubbed or treated with household carpet shampoo, which may damage delicate rug materials.
For homeowners planning professional Oriental rug cleaning, pricing generally ranges from $3 to $8 per square foot, depending on the rug’s fiber, construction, and condition. Chicago Oriental Rug Cleaning offers pickup and delivery throughout Chicago and North Shore communities, including Glencoe, Winnetka, Wilmette, Evanston, and Highland Park, with rugs typically returned within five to seven business days. Customers who bring rugs directly to the Glenview facility can receive $30 off invoices of $100 or more.
Chicago Oriental Rug Cleaning encourages homeowners to check rugs in high-traffic areas and arrange professional cleaning before winter conditions bring additional dirt and moisture indoors.
